Smoke rises above the rubble in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood in southern Beirut after an Israeli strike. On Wednesday, with the Middle East war continuing into its fifth day, Israel expanded its air strikes in Lebanon, targetting the area around the presidential palace in Beirut as well as strongholds of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah, killing at least 11 people.
