Google and Nvidia hail India’s AI expansion plans. India’s push to be an AI hub is expanding data centres in GB Nagar near Delhi. At the same time, communities are struggling to access clean water as groundwater levels drop. Just a few kilometres from Delhi, GB Nagar is rapidly emerging as one of India’s largest data centre hubs, with at least 17 facilities operational or under development to serve the country’s AI ambitions. But as this high-tech infrastructure expands, questions are being raised about its impact on local communities, especially when it comes to water.
