Aid trucks await entry at Rafah crossing after Israel recovers final hostage

From Global News.

Israel’s recovery of the final hostage’s remains on Monday fulfills a key condition of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza. The recovery could initiate a limited reopening of the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt, in line with Israeli pledges. Many on both sides of the border eagerly await the opportunity to distribute aid and supplies into the Palestinian territory.

“We hope that God will make things smoother and that the border crossing will open,” one aid-truck driver said, “We are extremely happy when we deliver aid.”

The Rafah crossing was supposed to have opened during the initial phase of Trump’s plan to end the war. However, Israeli officials had repeatedly objected, saying that Hamas must first return the body of the last remaining hostage.

Mohammed al-Ser, a Nasser hospital patient awaiting treatment for a brain injury in Khan Younis said, “My medical referral has been ready for six months, and I am waiting for the Rafah Crossing to open so I can travel and complete my treatment in any country.”
