Security lines snaked out of the terminal and into the parking garage at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. At Houston’s Hobby Airport, passengers waited three hours or more at security checkpoints on Sunday.
The Department of Homeland Security blamed the long lines on the partial government shutdown. TSA agents have been working without pay for more than three weeks after lawmakers and the White House failed to reach a deal on proposed restrictions on federal immigration enforcement operations.
President Trump said Sunday he’ll refuse to sign any new legislation into law until Congress passes stricter federal voting requirements. Trump’s announcement suggests that if Congress passes a spending bill for DHS, Trump may not sign it immediately.
