From PBS NewsHour.
A team of nearly 40 global researchers are embarking on a two month journey to study the Thwaites Glacier. Some call it the ‘Doomsday Glacier,’ a vast expanse of Antarctic ice roughly the size of Florida. As temperatures rise, the Thwaites Glacier is melting fast and threatens to raise global sea levels.
PBS News Hour’s science correspondent, Miles O’Brien, is with the expedition and reports aboard the Korean icebreaker Araon as the team attempts to reach the glacier. While uncertainty lies ahead on whether they’ll make it, Miles O’Brien will keep reporting updates aboard the ship.
