Artificial intelligence (AI) figureheads gathered in New Delhi on Thursday for the India AI Summit.

There, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei suggested AI technology was on the brink of its peak, claiming AI models will surpass “cognitive capabilities of most humans for most things” in “only a small number of years.”

Amodei expressed interest in partnering with India’s government on testing and evaluating different AI models for safety and security risks, noting that the technology’s progression has been so fast that it could result in a period of “disruption.”

Furthermore, he pitched that other AI companies should start collaborating to help manage that disruption. However, during a photo with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other tech leaders, Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman seemingly refused to hold hands, despite everyone else doing so.

This comes less than two weeks after the two organizations clashed over a Super Bowl ad in which Anthropic aired nationally televised spots with headlines including “Deception,” “Betrayal” and “Treachery” — seen as targeting OpenAI’s plans to introduce ads in its ChatGPT chatbot.
