Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva won the Arizona seventh Congressional district’s special election almost a month ago but still has not been sworn in by Speaker Mike Johnson due to a host of political factors beyond her control — including the continuing government shutdown and accusations she might trigger a controversial vote that House GOP leaders want to avoid.
Because she has not been officially sworn in, Grijalva’s office has no money because running it would require a congressional allowance and access to taxpayer funds, which she does not have. She can’t log on to her government computer because she doesn’t have the right password, and she has to wait in line with tourists to access the U.S. Capitol.
MSNBC Political Reporter Nnamdi Egwuonwu travels to Arizona’s, currently closed, seventh Congressional district office and speaks with some of Grijalva’s to hear how they are impacted by the delay.
