At least four Iranian drones struck Azerbaijan Thursday, officials says – including one near Nakhchivan’s airport, and another which fell near a school and injured two civilians.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the strikes “ugly, cowardly and shameless,” noting that, earlier in the day, he gave an order to send a plane to help evacuate employees of the Iranian embassy stuck in Lebanon – which has also been subject to military strikes this week.

“This stain will never be erased from their ugly and unsightly face,” Aliyev said in the capital of Baku Thursday. “All necessary measures will be taken through diplomatic channels… special forces have been brought to level-one mobilization and must be ready to conduct any operation,” he added.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi denied Tehran had targeted the Nakhchivan enclave, noting, “We do not attack our neighbouring countries.”
