From Global News.
The B.C. government is seeking to ease concerns following the B.C. Supreme Court’s Cowichan Nation land title ruling, which has ignited fierce debate and uncertainty across the province over the future of private property rights.
The court ruled in favour of the Quw’utsun (Cowichan) Nation, finding it had established Aboriginal title to more than 5.7 square kilometres of land along the Fraser River in Richmond, south of Vancouver.
The province is now assuring homeowners that they can still buy and sell properties claimed by the Cowichan Nation without seeking the band’s approval.
Paul Johnson reports on the province’s latest step to address the issue.
