U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Federal Reserve’s independence is based on Americans’ trust in the central bank, which it lost because it allowed inflation to get out of control and "ravage" their incomes. He made the comments at a House of Representatives Financial Services Committee hearing.
