From Global News.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford were in Ottawa on Thursday when Carney jokingly eyerolled in response to Ford calling Ontario’s anti-tariff ad, "the best ad that’s ever."
The Ontario commercial, which featured former Republican president Ronald Reagan’s views on tariffs and protectionism, created an international stir when President Donald Trump terminated trade negotiations with Canada and applied a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian exports to the United States in response to the commercial.
In response to a journalist’s question about whether U.S. tariffs on Canada’s key sectors would be lower had it not been for Ontario’s ad, Ford said, "Our intention was to bring it to the attention of the American people through the greatest president that ever lived, that was Ronald Reagan."
Ford said he was in a different position than the prime minister and while Trump was attacking Ontario with his tariffs, Ford was "not going to sit back and roll over."
