Blue Jays’ Shapiro and Atkins look back at World Series run, hint at what lies ahead in 2026

From Global News.

Toronto Blue Jays President and CEO Mark Shapiro, along with General Manager Ross Atkins, spoke at a season-ending press conference on Thursday following a heartbreaking Game 7 loss in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.

Shapiro recalled a story about how it dawned on him during the ALCS that the impact of the Blue Jays’ success was having on the city and the country. “I turned to my brother and said, "Man, I don’t think I’ve been fully aware of what’s been going on,” after seeing Blue Jays flags and gear throughout the city.

Shapiro also revealed that there’s a desire on his and the Blue Jays’ behalf to “work something out” when it comes to extending his own contract.

Asked about future payroll spending, Shapiro commented, “We’ve had an unprecedented level of support (from management) and I don’t see that going backwards at all.”

Asked about “running it back” with many of the same players returning for next season, Atkins said “you’re open to that as an outcome… but you just have to be open to other ways of doing it.”
