From AFP News Agency.
Can social media addiction be engineered? That’s what a plaintiff is arguing at a trial in California.
The case focuses on the allegations made by a 20-year-old woman, known as Kaley G.M., against tech giants Meta and Google-owned YouTube.
She says she has suffered severe mental harm after becoming addicted to the platforms as a young child.
The trial aims to establish a standard for resolving thousands of lawsuits that blame social media for fuelling an epidemic of depression, anxiety, eating disorders and suicide among young people.
