To build crucial military applications like the F-35 fighter, companies in the United States rely on inputs from China: The F-35 is a case in point because it requires more than 900 pounds of rare earths, materials for which China absolutely dominates supply chains globally. Crucially, it is permanent magnets that are produced from these rare earths – magnets that are among the strongest in the world and keep their properties under extreme heat. Now, the US is starting to build its own supply chains for permanent magnets. But can it challenge China soon? #dominomics
