Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent testified before the House Financial Services Committee on U.S. financial stability on Wednesday, where tariffs and housing costs were brought up by Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters.

She questioned Bessent’s apparent change in stance that tariffs are inflationary.

"Tariffs do not cause inflation," Bessent told the hearing.

When she later asked if he’d be the "voice of reason" to urge Trump to stop "waging a war on American consumers and on housing affordability," that’s when things derailed.

"Can you shut up?" Waters could be heard saying over Bessent, who retorted: "Can you maintain some level of dignity?"
