The diplomatic relationship between Canada and China appears to be on the mend after years of strain and more recent escalations in trade tensions.
But Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand was in Beijing this past week where she held bilateral trade talks with her Chinese counterpart.
Both Ottawa and Beijing agreed to reopen communication lines, potentially paving the way for a summit between Mark Carney and Xi Jinping.
