Canadian citizenship “with the click of a button”: Conservatives seek answers on Bill C-3

From Global News.

During question period in the House of Commons on Thursday, Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman asked if Liberal Immigration Minister Lena Diab would rise to answer questions on Bill C-3, which was passed into law in November of 2025 and will allow Canadian citizenship to be passed down to people born or adopted abroad beyond the first generation, under certain conditions.

“Her signature Bill C-3 could give citizenship to millions of people abroad with the click of a button. And she has no details and no explanations… How many people under this piece of legislation become Canadian?” asked Lantsman.

“It is a shameful thing that the Conservative party have decided, of all the issues, to come back to this House and talk about these things,” replied Liberal House Leader Steven MacKinnon.

“The minister (Diab) still won’t get up, in her chair, and answer basic questions about her job,” Lantsman said.
