A Russian general was killed by a bomb planted underneath his Kia Sorento in Moscow early Monday, Russian’s State Investigative Committee confirmed.

Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Russian General Staff’s army operational training directorate, died as a result of his injuries, the committee said.

As different “versions” of the events are being considered, investigators say the explosive may have been planted by Ukrainian special services.

Two other senior military officials have been killed in a similar fashion this year. The incident comes as the Russia-Ukraine war nears its fourth year.
