Carney admits that saying “Who cares?” about Trump phone call was “poor choice of words”

From Global News.

Two days after dismissing a reporter’s question about when his last conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump was, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was grilled in the House of Commons by Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre on the nature and context of that remark.

“Before the election, [Carney] promised ‘elbow’s up.’ After, it was ‘Who cares?’ Before the election, he said the tariffs were an existential crisis, now he says they’re not a ‘burning issue,’” the Conservative leader said during question period Tuesday.

Poilieve was referring to a Sunday press conference, where Carney asked a reporter, “Who cares?” after they posed him a question about when he last spoke with Trump.

Despite the ongoing trade war between Canada and the U.S., Carney followed up his controversial remark with: “I don’t have a burning issue to speak with the president about right now.”
