From Global News.
During a debate with Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre over the Liberal government’s handling of health care and immigration, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that he has brought Canada’s immigration system “under control.”
Speaking in question period on Tuesday, Carney said new asylum claims in Canada have gone down by a third while the number of temporary students has gone down by 60 per cent.
“We have the immigration system under control and we’re supplying health care to Canadians,” he said, emphasizing that it has been under a year since he was voted into office.
“The prime minister may pretend that he just got here, like he’s a temporary foreign worker or something, but in reality it is the same Liberal house leader, the same Liberal finance minister, the same Liberal justice minister – who was the immigration minister that broke the entire system – that are running it into the ground today,” Poilievre shot back.
Poilievre accused the Liberal government of prioritizing health care for people who have had their asylum claims “rejected,” while millions of Canadians struggle to find a family doctor.
