Conservatives hammered the Liberals on bail reform during question period Thursday, accusing the government of blocking discussion of its own bill during committee.

“We show up ready to fix the Liberal’s broken bail system. But after more than more than 17 attempts to prioritize C-14, the answer for the Liberals is always ‘no’,” he said.

In response, Justice Minister Sean Fraser accused Conservatives of filibustering for months, suggesting Tory MPs preferred to “talk about kittens and puppies” rather than crime and safety.

The federal Liberals sentencing reform legislation makes dozens of changes to the Criminal Code and will make it harder for violent and repeat offenders to get out of custody.
