Conservatives grill Carney Liberals over budget watchdog report estimating $68.5B deficit hike

From Global News.

In the House of Commons on Thursday, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives questioned Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government over the parliamentary budget officer’s (PBO) report estimating that the coming fall budget will reveal a sharp increase in Ottawa’s deficit.

Official opposition leader Poilievre said his mother should come in as the Finance Minister so "we wouldn’t have a PBO report showing," the government adding extra deficits.

"We are laser-focused on delivering affordability for Canadians. We’ve cut taxes for 22 million Canadians. We cut the GST for first-time home buyers, interest rates are down and through Bill Canada Homes, we are going to build homes at a scale not seen since the Second World War. It’s time for the Conservatives to cut the rhetoric…" Liberal MP Wayne Long said in reply.

Ottawa’s fiscal watchdog, Jason Jacques, now projects that the federal government will post an annual deficit of $68.5 billion this year, up from $51.7 billion in the previous year.
