Cuba plunged into darkness as fuel shortage worsens from US embargo

Two-thirds of Cuba plunged into darkness Thursday when one of the island’s main power plants shut down.

“I can’t go to work, get information or cook. We’re worse off every day,” a Havana resident said.

Cubans are used to rolling blackouts, but shortages are getting more extreme due to fuel shortages as the Trump administration blockades oil imports to the country; primarily from Venezuela.

As Touria Izri reports, years of government mismanagement coupled with the U.S. blockade have created a bleak forecast for the Cuban economy.
