Iranians continue to march in the streets while the regime keeps cracking down. Sixteen people had died as of Sunday, human rights groups claim. The protests, spurred by economic hardship, have entered their ninth consecutive day.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the its military would intervene if the Iranian regime kills protesters. “If they start killing people like that have in the past, I think they’re going to get hit very hard by the United States," Trump said.
Dennis Horak, a former Canadian chargé d’affaires to Iran, dismissed Trump’s rhetoric, “The idea that they can go in and snatch the supreme leader as they did with (Venezuelan President Nicolás) Maduro is just a fantasy."
