From Global News.
Seven Toronto police officers, including one retired member, have been arrested among 27 suspects following a major organized crime and corruption investigation, York Regional Police announced Thursday.
Police revealed the results of Project South, a months long probe that uncovered allegations of bribery, breach of trust, drug trafficking and the unauthorized access and distribution of confidential police information.
York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween said some officers are accused of passing sensitive information to organized crime figures, which police allege was later used to facilitate shootings and other violent crimes.
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw called the allegations "deeply disappointing" and confirmed the seven serving officers who were arrested have been suspended.
