Displaced Sudanese seek refuge in Tawila camp in Darfur after fleeing El-Fasher, a key city 70 kilometres to the east. El-Fasher was captured on October 26, 2025 by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who have been fighting a brutal war with Sudan’s army for over two years. Its capture followed an 18-month siege marked by starvation and bombardment and has solidified the paramilitary group’s control over Darfur, sparking fears of ethnically motivated violence reminiscent of the region’s darkest days.
