‘Do you think you’re going to hell?’ ICE director faces fiery questions on oversight

From Global News.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting director Todd Lyons faced tough questions from lawmakers who wanted to know if agents were being disciplined or held accountable for conduct amid the scrutiny over the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis and across the U.S.

Rep. Dan Goldman called certain procedures of ICE agents — wearing masks and asking for proof of citizenship — "un-American and outright fascist," after Lyon’s opening statement suggested references to ICE as the Gestapo or the secret police encouraged threats against agents.

"If you don’t want to be called a fascist regime or secret police, then stop acting like one," Rep. Goldman told Lyons.

Rep. Eric Swalwell asked if any agents had been fired during Lyon’s tenure, and if he would consider apologizing to the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two civilians killed by ICE.

Rep. LaMonica McIver added a few philosophical questions for Lyon’s consideration. "How do you think Judgment Day will work for you with so much blood on your hands?" she asked.
