Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on Friday said the Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents.

Blanche’s comments come as questions swirl around the investigation into Pretti’s killing. The FBI has launched an investigation and state officials have, through court proceedings, have sought to open their own probe into Pretti’s death.
