Doug Ford says he will “100%” remove Crown Royal from LCBO stores when Diageo moves to US

From Global News.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford doubled down on his threats to remove Crown Royal from LCBO shelves on Monday during his first press conference of 2026.

“100 per cent I am… as soon as they close that plant,” Ford replied when asked if he planned to remove the popular Canadian blended whiskey brand from the provincial liquor stores.

The Dieageo-owned Crown Royal bottling plant in Amherstburg, Ont. was listed for sale in late December and is set to close in February.

Noting that Diageo previously planned to invest $350 million in St. Clair, Ont., but “pulled the carpet out from underneath us,” Ford justified his decision, saying that operations are “all going to Alabama, mark my words… It’s not going to be produced in Ontario anymore.”

Ford’s message to manufacturers? “Don’t try to hurt Ontario – especially if we’re your number-one-customer – you’ll be held accountable.”
