Doug Ford wants US envoy to apologize for “unacceptable” comments to Ontario trade rep

From Global News.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has condemned “unacceptable” behaviour of Pete Hoekstra and is requesting an apology from the U.S. ambassador to Canada after reports he went on an expletive-filled tirade against Ontario’s trade representative, David Paterson.

“Pete, you’ve got to call Dave up and apologize. It’s simple. The cheese slipped off the cracker,” Ford said during a Wednesday press conference. “I get it, you’re ticked off, but call the guy up because you’re a good guy, and Dave’s my champion,” he added.

Hoekstra’s alleged “dressing-down” against Paterson took place Monday at the annual Canadian American Business Council gala, according to the Globe and Mail. It supposedly came as a response to the controversial anti-tariff commercial – issued by the Ford government – which aired in the U.S. until Sunday evening.
