Dutch centrist leader Rob Jetten celebrates after election success | AFP

The leader of the Netherlands’ progressive D66 party Rob Jetten celebrates in The Hague after parliamentary elections in which his pro-European group came out neck and neck with the far-right party of firebrand Geert Wilders. On Thursday, with 99.7 percent of the vote tallied, D66 was fractionally behind Wilders’ anti-Islam PVV Freedom Party but, with every major party ruling out a coalition with the far-right, Jetten is on course to become the Netherlands’ youngest and first openly gay prime minister.
