Epstein files: UK police arrest former US ambassador Peter Mandelson

From Global News.

British police arrested former U.K. ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Mandelson was taken to a police station for questioning regarding his ties to sex trafficker financier Jeffrey Epstein and whether he passed sensitive government information to Epstein a decade and a half ago.

Mandelson’s arrest came four days after ex-Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in a separate case on suspicion of a similar offence related to his friendship with Epstein.

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has come under increasing scrutiny for appointing Mandelson as U.S. ambassador, whom he fired last September over his ties to Epstein.

Under U.K. law, police can hold a suspect without charge for up to 24 hours. This can be extended to a maximum of 96 hours. Mandelson could be charged, released unconditionally or released while investigations continue.
