From the archives: President Bill Clinton celebrates 200 years of the White House in 2000

Nov. 1, 2000, marked the 200th anniversary of John Adams becoming the first president to move into the White House. Then-President Bill Clinton celebrated the occasion alongside historians and Adams’ descendants. At the end of the ceremony, historical reenactors depicted Adams’ arrival in 1800.
