Gamma Knife surgery offers hope of pain-free future for trigeminal neuralgia patients

From Global News.

Alberta researchers are looking into a new way to treat a debilitating pain condition—trigeminal neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is known more commonly as the “suicide disease,” because a quarter of patients living with it die by suicide.

It’s a condition that impacts the nerve between the face and the brain and can cause extreme, debilitating pain.

As Global’s Quinn Ohler reports, the hope is that a new non-invasive procedure, called the Gamma Knife, if used early, could offer patients a pain-free future.
