The town of La Réole near Bordeaux (Gironde department, western France) remains largely submerged by the waters of the Garonne River, which reached the crest of the dykes near the town after Storm Nils passed through this week. The Garonne River remains on red alert for flooding on Saturday and Sunday in Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne amid “widespread flooding” in France, with fears of levee breaches and possible new evacuations, according to weather services and firefighters.
