Germany’s city of Magdeburg marks one-year anniversary of deadly Christmas Market attack | DW News

From DW News.

The eastern German city of Magdeburg is marking the one-year anniversary of a Christmas Market attack that killed 6 people and injured more than 300 others.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz attended a memorial church service for the victims of the violent attack. A chain of lights surround the Old Market Square near where the attack took place, as the ringing of bells at 7:02 p.m. marked the time of the attack. On December 20, 2024, authorities say a doctor originally from Saudi Arabia, plowed a rental vehicle into the Christmas market crowd at speeds of nearly 50 kilometers an hour.
