There are major developments in the Middle East — Iran says it has named its new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, as attacks expand on all fronts. Thick black smoke blanketed Tehran after the U.S. and Israel targeted fuel depots and refineries. Attacks are also widening critical civilian infrastructure after desalination plants were attacked in Iran and in Bahrain. And the number of casualties is rapidly escalating across the region. Jeff Semple has more.
On Sunday, desalination plants became a new target for the U.S. and Israel in the Middle East. Both Iran and Bahrain say their facilities have been hit. Candice Cole looks at what this could mean for the water supply that everyday Iranians and many people in neighbouring Gulf states depend on to live.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has called byelections in two Toronto ridings and one Montreal-area riding for April 13. The outcome could give the governing Liberal minority a razor-thin majority. As Jillian Piper reports, one riding could be particularly close.
