President Donald Trump reiterated his position that the U.S. "needs" Greenland for national security purposes in a social media post ahead of Vice President JD Vance meeting with Danish officials about the issue.

Trump’s comments about Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, have alarmed leaders in Copenhagen and other European capitals. The president said during a meeting with oil executive last week that "We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not."

"I would like to make a deal the easy way, but if we don’t do it the easy way, we’re going to do it the hard way," Trump added.
