In Guatemala, at least seven police officers have been killed in an outbreak of gang violence.

Police officers in several locations were targeted by gunmen on Sunday, shortly after authorities raided a prison and captured a top gang leader.

There have been riots in three prisons with dozens of prison guards being held hostage.

Guatemala’s president is vowing joint operations with the army and police to regain order. President Bernardo Arevalo declared a 30-day nationwide state of siege on Sunday.
