High-Performance Windows: The Details Everyone Misses – Forever Home – Ep. 8

From The Build Show.

Steve Baczek walks through high-performance window installation details with Matt Risinger at the Forever Home project. They cover rough opening dimensions, explaining the two-inch width and three-and-a-half-inch height additions for proper shimming and air sealing. Baczek details the rip sill approach, prioritizing durability over minor thermal efficiency losses, along with a cedar lap siding slope and back dam for water management. The team demonstrates Zip System integration and SIGA Fentrim tape application, using permeable tape on the exterior for moisture drying and impermeable tape inside for air sealing. The episode showcases Schuco UPVC windows and concludes with installing a thirteen-by-six-foot mulled unit.
