From Global News.
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and other Tory MPs criticized the Liberal government Monday over its contract with the automaker Stellantis, after it was revealed last week that the company would move production of its Jeep Compass from its plant in Brampton, Ont., to Illinois.
“Is there an ironclad guarantee of every single workers’ job here in Canada?” Poilievre asked, pushing for details on the contracts signed with Stellantis.
A House of Commons committee approved a study of the contracts Stellantis signed with the federal government for billions of dollars of subsidies.
Industry Minister Melanie Joly said the government had agreed to hand over the contracts to committee and that the government would “put full pressure” on Stellantis.
Liberal members of the Government Operations and Estimates Committee raised concerns about releasing unredacted contracts containing commercially sensitive information, arguing that it could threaten future foreign investment in Canada at a time when the country is seeking to bolster its economy in the face of U.S President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
