European Union leaders are meeting for informal talks on the bloc’s defense.
Heads of state and government from EU member states highlighted the urgency of countering Russia’s so-called hybrid attacks. It follows a series of incursions into European airspace and a string of drone sightings at EU airports, suspected of being instigated and controlled by Moscow. Proposals on the table include building a common drone defense and boosting aid to Ukraine for its defense against the Russian invasion. One option on the table for Ukraine support is to make use of some 200 billion euros of Russian assets currently frozen in European financial institutions. But that plan is controversial.
