Iran protests: What happened over the weekend, and what comes next?

After two weeks of protests, demonstrators in Iran are still calling for the regime’s overthrow despite crackdowns. Some human rights groups claim as many as 500 have been killed, though the ongoing internet blackout makes that difficult to verify.

The Washington Institute’s Patrick Clawson says it appears the regime is bringing in extra security from rural areas, “the regime may be concerned that only those that are coming in from small towns in the hinterland will still be loyal to the regime… That’s not a good sign for this regime.”
