The U.S. military said on March 4 that it killed an Iranian official who led a united involved in an alleged assassination plan against President Donald Trump.

"The leader of the unit who attempted to assassinate President Trump has been hunted down and killed," Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a Pentagon press conference. "Iran tried to kill President Trump and President Trump got the last laugh."

Hegseth stressed the Iranian official, who was not identified, was not the focus of the US’s war against Iran.
