After his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin tells Power & Politics in an exclusive broadcast interview that U.S. tariffs have created a ‘significant urgency’ to expand trade with Canada, and that Ireland will be a ‘friend in court’ to help Canada grow its relationship with Europe when it takes the EU presidency in 2026. Then, Martin draws on the history of conflict in Ireland to explain why he believes expanded recognition of a Palestinian state could be progress toward peace in Gaza, noting that ‘The internationalization of the Irish issue did lead to its resolution.’
