Is the Multiverse Real?

From StarTalk.

In this episode of StarTalk, Neil deGrasse Tyson hosts a discussion with Sean Carroll, joined by Chuck Nice, about the Many Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, the Copenhagen interpretation, and the nature of reality itself. Sean Carroll explains that the Schrödinger equation naturally suggests a branching universe, where multiple outcomes exist simultaneously, and argues that treating these branches as “real” may be the simplest interpretation of quantum theory.

They also explore the role of philosophy in understanding the multiverse, debate whether “measurement” should appear in the fundamental laws of physics, and clarify common misconceptions about photons “experiencing” time. The central idea: quantum mechanics may imply a far stranger, branching reality than our everyday intuition suggests.
