Israel to ban dozens of aid groups in Gaza on New Year’s Day

Norwegian Refugee Council and Doctors Without Borders are among 37 aid organizations that Israel will bar from operating in Gaza starting on Jan. 1, 2026. Israel claims they failed to meet requirements under new registration rules aimed at preventing Hamas and other militant groups from infiltrating the aid organizations. But Bushra Khalidi, the Oxfam Policy Lead in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, says aid groups are being asked to hand over ‘highly sensitive personal data’ without clear safeguards or transparency, which would put their workers and their families at risk.
