From Global News.
Lithuania says it is now “ready for a decision to close the border with Belarus indefinitely,” after repeated air traffic violations by Belarus, involving smuggler balloons.
“We are sending a signal to Belarus and saying that no hybrid attack will be tolerated here, and we will take all the strictest measures to stop such attacks,” Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene said at a press conference in Vilnius on Monday.
In the last week, Lithuania closed Vilnius Airport four times after foreign balloons entered the capital’s airspace. The border between the neighbouring countries was closed temporarily following each incident.
Lithuanian officials say the balloons are sent to transport contraband cigarettes from Belarus into the EU.
