US President Donald Trump delivers the first State of the Union address of his second term on Tuesday night. His speech comes as the midterm elections approach, with opinion polls showing that more voters disapprove than approve of his performance.
The address is also set to land in the middle of a funding lapse at the Department of Homeland Security — the result of a standoff with Democrats over immigration enforcement, which the White House had hoped to avoid. Several Democrats plan to boycott the State of the Union and attend a counter‑rally on the National Mall, billed as the ‘People’s State of the Union.’
