Luigi Mangione will not face the death penalty by lethal injection if he is convicted of the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In a 39-page ruling, the federal judge admitted his decision "may strike the average person, and indeed many lawyers, as tortured and strange." Mangione denies the murder charge. Friday’s hearing took place a day after news broke of what authorities say is a bizarre attempt to "free Luigi." Mangione’s attorney says he was unaware of the alleged plot to free him.
